UK Funky's foremost architect drops his most
substantial release to date, the crucial
'Patience EP' via Good Years. Since dropping
his definitive 'Funky Flex' 12" in 2008 and
the successive 'Pulse vs Flex' and 'Seasons'
in 2009, Lil Silva has played it very cool
with only a select handful of highly
considered killers on Night Slugs besides some
higher profile remix work for Mark Ronson and
on Fugitive's 'Bad Girls'. His first drop of
2011 is stupendously heavy. From the cold,
martial snare cracks and demented samples of
'Patience', to the overwhelmingly subbass
pressure of 'Cheese And Bun', through the
serrated synth flares of 'Wait Is Over' and
the sumptuous, feminine pressure of 'On Your
Own' with Sampha, there's no doubt in our
minds that Lil Silva is still perched at the
top of his chosen game. If you've got a rave
to rule, a BBQ that needs some flavour or a
batty twitching for the dance, this is an
utterly essential release.
